Campus Platforms

We collaborate with partners across the university to manage and support the use of key online learning platforms including D2L, Zoom, Top Hat and YuJa. 

The University of Calgary provides several key online learning technologies for use by the entire campus community. These platforms provide core functionality to enable effective online teaching and learning experiences.

Online resources are available to help instructors and students to use these platforms and we'd be happy to consult with you about how to best implement your courses online.

D2L is the online learning management system used by the University of Calgary. All courses automatically have sites created in D2L, and instructors can activate and use these sites for their courses. D2L provides a variety of tools help faculty create engaging learning experiences to keep students interested and progressing through the course.

Top Hat is a software-based student response system that lets instructors ask questions during class, and can track the responses of students who participate. Top Hat allows students to connect using their own laptop, smartphone, or tablet.

Zoom ( is the campus online platform that enables you to have online real-time sessions with your students or colleagues. You can share your presentations or desktop, collaborate with others, conduct small group activities, poll your students and more, all from virtually any device.

An account is not required if you are simply joining a meeting, but if you would like to create and host an online class/ seminar/ meeting, you will require an account, e.g. if you are a course instructor.

YuJa is the university’s video hosting/ content management system. It can be used as a stand-alone tool and also within your D2L course. YuJa allows you to upload and share your videos, create screen captures via a free desktop software and caption your content.

The YuJa Enterprise Video Platform is an all-in-one video experience to securely create, manage, discover, collaborate, and live stream video content across any device, at any time.
